Is Winter already getting you down? Here are 10 ideas for gardeners to help kick those winter blues to the compost heap:

1. Get Involved! Winter is the perfect time to join a garden club or plant society. It's a great way to grow knowledge and form new roots with others. Links to local groups in London ON area.

2. Learn! There are so many zoom classes, podcasts, apps, and workshops available in the community. Here's a link to a free online on-demand organic gardening course we enjoyed. You can find a variety of amazing, informative, and fun links to gardening experts on our resource page.

3. Indoor Garden! Spend some time gardening indoors. A kitchen herb garden or a miniature succulent garden is easy and quite rewarding. For the more seasoned indoor gardener, we recommend giving kokedama planting a try!

4. Propagate! Many of our favorite houseplants are easy to propagate from leaf cuttings. Winter is a good time to do it and here are some great tips.

5. Become a Bookworm! Organize a monthly Garden Book Club with friends to learn together.

6. Share! Swap or share houseplants that have outgrown your space with family and friends in your social bubble.

7. Winterize! Get caught up on all those little jobs avoided during the busy summer. Jobs on our list include: clean our containers and bring any ceramic ones into the shed. Repair the sagging potting bench or the drafty chicken coop. Clean and sharpen garden tools.

8. Plan! Plan your 2021 vegetable or landscape garden. Now is the time to let your imagination run wild, and to sketch out what you want to do for the next season. There are loads of online videos and magazines with ideas. Check the Master Gardener of Ontario Facebook group where you'll find loads of suggestions and pictures to help choose some great native plants to grow.

9. Prune! Pruning trees in the winter when they're dormant is the ideal time. Proper pruning helps control shape and vigor. Tips for pruning trees and shrubs

10. Attract Birds! Feed the birds and offer them water and shelter. They'll reward you by being around to help control pests next season. Attract more birds. Bird Suet Recipe
