Bees – what to do about a swarm?

Our bees are threatened and we need to protect all that we can. However, that doesn’t mean we want a swarm in our back yards!

Ontario bee has a helpful page http://www.ontariobee.com/sales-and-services/got-a-swarm  They suggest you can:

  1. Contact a local beekeeping association in Ontario  eg

Middlesex, Oxford, Elgin Beekeepers’ Association, Arva, ON

    Contact: Bob Crowhurst, President
    Telephone: 519-666-1670
  2. Contact your closest Ontario Bee Inspector.

Elgin, Essex, Chatham-Kent, Lambton, Middlesex, Norfolk

    Mike Steele
    Email: mike.steele@ontario.ca
    Cell Phone: 519-360-8758

    Erin Ryan
    Email: erin.ryan@ontario.ca
    Cell Phone: 519-358-6593

  3. Ask your fire or police department if they have a list of beekeepers who will take unwanted bees.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE BEES YOURSELF UNLESS YOU ARE AN EXPERIENCED BEEKEEPER!
